Government's Computer Literacy Program

Jalil Chauhdary

Computer technology can't be ignored in any sense. It is the most wanted and necessary technology , which can change the destiny of the Nations. Government of Pakistan is paying great attention to develop the computer literacy rate in the country. Information technology is growing rapidly in our country though it seems like development but in facts results are bit different. Every thing has two aspects one is bright and other is dark. The brighter aspect of this technology seems very much dominant in these days, every one is indulged in computer fever. Every one wants to be an IT graduate for his better and secured future. IT related education is bit expensive but according to our traditions we never care about any type of loss when we are in such fever.

When an IT graduate comes out from University after completing his degree and tries to start his professional career as a Programmer , System Analyst or Software Engineer etc, all the dreams are shattered because in reality there are few opportunities in our country for such Graduates and Post Graduates. No doubt there are some Software Houses in our country but if we compare the number of these Software Houses with the number of the candidates having appropriate abilities, ,result will be nothing else frustration. In this condition we can easily conclude that we only are generating "Data Clerics"& "Data Entry Operators".

The collisions of realities and dreams are always painful and bitter but we are forced to take part in race for an unseen destination. If this process remain same then after few years there will be a large number of unemployed people having degrees in IT field like Doctors and Engineers. This will  increase the crime rate and moral follies in society.

To avoid this situation higher authorities should be followed on following suggestions;

(I) Check and Balance System should be implemented in educational departments especially in professional degrees and programs.

(II) Number of opportunities for such technical and well skilled people should be developed in all over the country.

(III) Facilities for Foreign investors should be increased with attractive incentives.

If Government takes strict action about this issue then people will be able to continue their children's education other wise they will prefer to choose some ordinary education. The failure of this Government's Computer Literacy Program will be more dangerous than any type of atomic weapon.
